SnapCents vs YNAB

Looking for a budgeting app where you own your data? SnapCents is built for people who want full control over their financial information — no cloud servers, no third-party access, no account required.

Why People Choose SnapCents

Your data stays on your device. SnapCents stores everything locally on your iPhone. There is no SnapCents server. No company — including us — can access, analyze, or use your financial data. YNAB stores your budget on its cloud servers and imports transactions through third-party services.

Your finances are never used to train AI. SnapCents uses Apple Foundation Models that run entirely on your device. Your spending data never leaves your phone. Cloud-based services can use aggregated data to improve their products — with SnapCents, that is not possible because we never see your data.

No account, no bank credentials. You can start using SnapCents immediately — no sign-up, no email, no bank login. Add expenses by scanning receipts, speaking them, typing them, or importing a PDF bank statement. Everything is processed on-device.

Pay once, own it forever. SnapCents offers a $74.99 lifetime purchase — all features, all future updates, no recurring charges. YNAB costs $14.99/month ($99/year) with no lifetime option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SnapCents do everything YNAB does?

No. YNAB has automatic bank sync, shared budgets, a web app, and an Android app. SnapCents does not. SnapCents has receipt scanning, voice entry, on-device AI, mileage tracking, business profiles, and a lifetime purchase option — things YNAB does not offer. They are different apps built around different priorities.

Why no automatic bank imports?

Automatic imports require connecting to your bank through a third-party service, which means your transaction data passes through external servers. We built SnapCents so that all data stays on your device. Instead, we focused on making manual entry fast — scan a receipt in seconds, say an expense out loud, or import a PDF statement from your bank’s website.

Can I switch from YNAB to SnapCents?

There is no direct import. You would start fresh and track expenses going forward. If you have bank statements in PDF format, you can import those to backfill recent transactions.
